Lying on your back is the most popular way to use the Aku Mat. You can place your mat on any surface - but we recommend a bed or workout mat. Softer surfaces allow your unique body shape to naturally form to the Aku Mat.
Sit down at the base of the mat and slowly roll your back down until you are lying on the mat. Make sure to have your body weight evenly distributed across the spikes. Once you’re in the desired position it’s all about breathing. Focus on slow, deep breaths – only then will your body and mind begin to relax.
Several important acupressure points are located on the back, particularly the lumbar region. Applying consistent pressure to these areas can relieve lower back pain and sciatica.

Since most of us sit for extended periods throughout the day, our legs don’t get the circulation they need. The Aku Mat solves this problem. Lay your mat over a slightly elevated sink into the spikes. At frst, you’ll feel a tingling sensation and then, as circulation increases, your tight muscles will begin to warm up and relax.
Leg acupressure is commonly used to increase blood and lymph circulation, making it a great pre-workout habit to trigger the nervous system and activate tired muscles.

The neck is a notoriously tight area where all sorts of stress and tension can build up. The root of it may be something simple, like slouching shoulders over a keyboard or bad posture. More serious conditions include whiplash, arthritis, or pinched nerves. Whether it’s chronic or temporary, the Aku Mat can relieve pressure and discomfort in this sensitive area. Roll up your mat and allow the metal spikes to soothe tired or injured muscles.
Neck acupressure points are deeply relaxing and can be triggered to promote thyroid health, which lessens anxiety and stress.

There are eight essential acupressure points in the hands, all of which can be stimulated for your beneft with use of the Aku Ball. To use, place the ball in between your palms, press and roll gently covering as much surface area of your hands as possible, or roll it on the top surface of your hands and even your wrists too. As you press the ball between your palms and fingers, you’ll feel an immediate warming effect as tension leaves your hands. You can also make a fist and squeeze the Aku Ball with your hands like you would a stress ball.
Hand acupressure is particularly effective for someone who suffers from arthritis or Raynaud’s disease.

Our feet contain 38 different muscles and absorb over 1,000 pounds of force every day. They’re also covered in acupressure points and nerve centers, making them a perfect target for the Aku Mat. Slowly engage the mat and breath deeply as your entire body weight presses into the metal spikes. The second you step on the mat you’ll feel energy rush up the legs. This is the most intense method of treatment. Start with socks on, and slowly work your way up to bare feet.
Foot acupressure (also known as reflexology) is commonly used to increase nerve function, treat Plantar Fasciitis and reduce the severity of headaches.
Getting Started
The benefits of acupressure have long stood the test of time; however, access to treatment has remained expensive and unpractical. For example, people suffering from lower back pain can’t dedicate the time and money necessary for consistent therapy.
Aku set out to solve this problem, which led them all the way to Ukraine’s most influential acupuncturist and sports therapist: Dr. Nikolay Lyapko. Aku teamed up with Dr. Lyapko to bring the first authentic acupressure mat to North America. By authentic, we mean metal.

The result is a sleek and portable acupressure tool designed for multi-functional everyday use, using the same technology that has helped millions of people worldwide to heal their bodies.
